Service Description
This DROP SPINNING workshop provides the techniques, materials and equipment to get you spinning on a drop spindle. £65 for 2.5hrs Times: 10am or 1pm Venue: Stable & Wick Farm Shop, Downton SP5 3NH or The Goat at Downton, SP5 3LY Workshop comprises 1:1 tuition, take-home kit and refreshments. Workshops taking place at an alternative venue will incur my fuel costs @ 45p/mile for round trips of over 30 miles. Stick and Drop SPINNING WORKSHOP covers: Fibre types and fibre preparation Finger picking fibre Simple stick spinning Picking and hand carding Blending fibres 'Park & Draft’ drop spinning Winding on a nostepinne Plying yarn Skeining on a niddy-noddy Setting yarn Information on washing raw fleece Take-Home Kit includes 60g fibre, spinning stick, hand turned drop spindle, printed instructions, simple projects for finished yarn including wooden sheep with swivel bag clip to wrap with your spun yarn, online links, organza project bag. Additional sessions covering spinning wheel setup/maintenance and spinning on a spinning wheel; carding on a drum carder and blending using a blending board are available from £20/hour. 1:1 PEG LOOM WEAVING WORKSHOP A half-day WEAVING workshop providing the techniques, materials and equipment for you to create a small peg-loom woven mat. £65 for 3hrs from either 10:30am or 1pm Fuel costs @ 45p/mile for round trips of over 30 miles will be calculated and due on the day. In this workshop you will learn how to use a peg loom to create a woven seat pad or yoga head/knee rest: * Prepare warp threads and warp up the peg loom * Card washed sheep fleece for weaving * Cut strips of scrap fabrics for weaving (if wished) * Prepare washed uncarded ('wild') sheep fleece for weaving if available * Select fleece and plan weave pattern * Weave a seat pad/yoga head-knee rest approx 45cm x 45cm * Finish off and sew in warp threads. The workshop includes materials and needlefelting needle and darning needle to finish off your mat. You may provide your own washed fleece, yarn or fabric to cut up and weave if wished. If wished, the pine Peg Loom, hardwood pegs and warp threader (hand made with love in the New Forest!) as used in the workshop may be purchased at 20% off the usual selling price.
